When the hot months come, we all want to enjoy the outdoors, evening strolls and spontaneous getaways. And yes – our pets deserve to enjoy summer too… but always with care.
The key isn’t to cancel plans, but to apply common sense and take preventive measures.
You don’t need to live in fear of summer – just be responsible. Shift walks to cooler hours, when the pavement isn’t scorching at over 60 °C and burning paw pads.
Place fresh water in several spots around the house, especially if you’re out all day, and avoid intense physical activity in direct sun – chasing a ball at noon isn’t a great idea, no matter how eager your dog is.
These days, you can even download apps that measure ground temperature. You’ll know exactly when it’s safe to go out without “frying” your pet’s paws. And if you’re travelling, pack a small summer bag:
– Light, easy-to-digest snacks
– A portable fan
– Drinking water
– And a towel in case your pet needs cooling down
A vet visit isn’t a bad idea either. Some pets may need specific supplements or a diet tailored to hot weather – especially those with chronic conditions, older pets, or heat-sensitive breeds.
After all, summer is meant to be enjoyed together… not to end in the emergency room.
If you follow these tips, your pet will reach September happy, healthy and with paw pads as cool as a mojito. They’ll thank you with soft panting, long naps and a few grateful licks.
Because the best way to care… is to stay one step ahead.
