During your stay by the sea, it is important to take certain precautions for you and your family. It’s the same for your pets.
The legal obligations
Dogs have a regulated access to beaches. These regulations vary according to the municipalities which can, either forbid it totally, or authorize it partially or completely (early in the morning and/or late in the evening). You can ask at the tourist office to know where and when your animals are tolerated.
Do not forget the papers of your animal in case of police control. In every case, you have to keep him tied and collect his excrement.
Under the sun
Between 11 am and 4 pm, the sun is very strong, and they can be victim of heat because the sand reverberates until 17 % of sunbeams under the parasol. Puppies, seniors, cardiac or obese animals and brachycephalic dogs (in short nose) are the most sensitive ones. Make sure that they are regularly hydrated and if possible, wet them from time to time.
In the sea!
Although rarely responsible for drowning to dogs, waves can impress them. If it is the case, do not force your animals but attract them in the water by asking them to follow you or by throwing a ball. The best way is to bring a dog who loves bathing in the sea and shows the example.
If your dogs suffer from degenerative osteoarthritis or from overweight, the swimming can only be beneficial.
After the bath, rinse them in the fresh water and insist on legs because the sand and the salt irritate the skin and the small cushions. Put some drops of physiological salt solution in the eyes, the winds of sand tending to cause conjunctivites. Clean his ears with a specific product to avoid the otitis.
